A person to turn to

Hello. I’m Tom, your guide.

Friendly, practical countryside advice for landowners and smallholding owners, from the person you’ll actually be talking to. On your land, or at the other end of a call.

Your land should feel
like a possibility.

I’m Tom, the founder of The Acres Guide. I started it because I enjoy helping people feel confident caring for their land, make room for wildlife and avoid unnecessary costs. My background is in land management, conservation, forestry and practical countryside work, and I love wildlife and practical land care. I help landowners and smallholding owners make sense of their fields, paddocks, ponds, woodland and private grounds — whether the questions came with a move or have been building for years.

You don’t need to know what to call it, or have a grand plan for it. We can start with the things you’ve noticed and the questions you’ve been turning over. If you’d like more wildlife on your land, I can help with that too, from wildflower and wildlife meadows to pollinator-friendly areas and habitat improvements.

If you’d like me to come out, I offer site visits across North West England, North Wales and Yorkshire, including Cheshire and Lancashire. We’ll walk your land and talk it through together. If a call suits you better, I also offer remote guidance using your own photos and videos.

Either way, I’ll help you think about what needs attention, what can wait and what fits the time and budget you have.

I’ll explain things plainly. I’ll tell you when you need a specialist, and when you don’t need to spend money at all. You don’t need to turn your land into a full-time job.

Let’s make sense of your land, together.
Tom

What you can expect from me

Plain words, always

Ask anything. I’ll explain it in a way that makes sense, without assuming you know the countryside inside out.

A plan that fits your life

Your time, your budget and what you enjoy matter. We’ll find a manageable way forward for your land.

Save money. Spend wisely.

Some work is essential, some is optional, and some can simply wait. Before you spend anything, let’s talk — sometimes the best next step is to leave things alone for a while.

You don’t need to have it all figured out.

Tell me about your land. We’ll work out a good place to start.
